The Purpose of Discipleship
Fulfill the Great Commission - Matthew 28:18-20
“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Fulfill the Commandments of Jesus Christ found in - Matthew 22:37-39
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
It is our desire to fulfill the great commission and the great commandment through discipleship; it is the purpose of our existence and all believers.
The Mission is to make disciples
How to disciple a disciple?
In the early church new believers were mentored by those who they came to know Jesus through. Discipleship is a method by which a person learns from another as the disciple, disciples a disciple. Or as one who has more experience mentors another who desires to learn from them.
Jesus set the example by spending time with and was intentional in teaching his disciples how to bear witness, walk in Spirit and Truth.
So being a disciple is to learn to walk in Spirit and Truth with Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
The Vision is to All Nations
Acts 1:8
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
