Covenant Community Fellowships

After Jesus returned to the Father, His disciples continued to meet in homes around Jerusalem, just as they did when He was walking with them.  Once the “Church” was formed in the book of Acts, the first century Christians continued to meet together in homes and certain public places, such as the temple courts. Wherever the Gospel was preached and people were saved, they met in homes and in public places whenever possible. 

In Acts 2, we find this:  "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and prayer.  Every day they continued to meet together in temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their numbers daily those who were being saved." (verses 42, 46,47)  In Acts 16:40, we read: "After Paul and Silas came out of the prison, they went to Lydia's house, where they met with the brothers and encouraged them."

The Apostle Paul sends greetings to churches in homes throughout his letters, such as this passage in Colossians 4:15,16:  “Give my greetings to the brothers at Laodicea, and to Nympha and the church in her house.  After this letter has been read to you, see that it is also read in the church of the Laodiceans and that in turn read the letter from Laodicea.”

There are many other references in Scripture to the Body of Christ meeting in the homes of believers as well as in community places. Today we do not have temple courts, nor do we have town squares.  However, we do have homes, parks, and restaurants.  This is the model we believe our Lord Jesus taught His disciples.  We at Seminary Covenant Community have adopted this model of the first-century church as our structure.

We find that each Home Group (or “House Church”) is a nurturing body that continues to grow in faith and love, under the authority of Seminary Covenant Community.  We pray God’s blessing on you as you join us in the endeavor. We are here to be your family as you have need.

John Wilcox is Vice President of the Covenant Community Fellowship division of Seminary Covenant Community.  Pastor Wilcox was ordained in 2003 and currently serves as Pastor of Living Water Fellowship in Palm Bay.   John has been involved in ministry for more than 35 years.  In that time he has served as Home Group Leader, Elder, and on ministry teams for Indian River Via de Cristo.  For the past 5 years, John has served on the Board of Seminary Covenant Community.  He is married to Charita Wilcox.
